bored at work

7 November 2007

I'm bored at work. So very, very bored.

So far today I've actually done a little bit of work, mostly in the morning. I got derailed somewhere around noon and never managed to get back on track. I'm sitting at my computer, staring at the quotes file, screwing around with the backup Eagle's Nest BBS site and -- a sign of true fatigue and chronic boredom -- updating my Web site.

I'm a systems administrator. I've been in this industry for (oh God) eleven years now. That means I've been cleaning up other people's tech shit since 1996. And in all that time, I have never found a way to make the work as interesting as half the things I could be doing if I weren't at the office. The number one thing, of course, is hanging out with my lovely, alluring girlfriend, with whom I never seem to get enough time. Have you ever had a best friend who you always wanted to have around and never want to leave, even to go home for dinner? That's my girl for me. It's a bloody crime to have to go to this job -- and it's a good job, don't get me wrong -- for most of my waking hours, thus leaving my girl at home. How many better things can I think of to do than work? All of them.

The day has really dragged by. Fortunately my girlfriend is going to be picking me up any minute now to go to the chiropracter, because I am an old crippled fart who requires much care. Ha.
